Urban Ecotones: The Development Of Zurich’s City Limits
Urban ecotones is a performance and installation that arises from the exploration of the boundaries of the city of Zurich at different moments in time, from the Ice Age to the present. It follows the movement of the urban ecotone through the stories of its non-human and human inhabitants. Two plant species, Alpenleinkraut and Fleischers Weidenröschen – actual relics from the cold times –, show a path through a history marked by a changing climate and economy that displaces certain inhabitants from the center towards the periphery. A collection of traces, objects and words invite the audience to inhabit the boundary between languages, between past and present. A reflection on what a thriving city implies for those who can no longer live there, memory as a process of healing.
The performance will take place as part of the Lange Nacht der Zürcher Museen and is accessible with a corresponding ticket.
