Francis Schmetz, Contretemps/Gegenzeit

We are excited to present the first Swiss solo exhibition by well-known Belgian artist Francis Schmetz. His multifaceted artistic practice is a search for meaning that continuously examines and reimagines the question of “being”. Language and writing are central to this process, informed by Schmetz’s own experience of bilingualism in German and French. A selection of his drawings, collages and objects will be in dialogue with each other in the project space. In the white space at the back of the gallery, an ephemeral floor drawing invites viewers to walk on the art work, taking as its starting point a text-fragment attributed to Heraclitus: “All being is in a flux of becoming and perishing”. Francis Schmetz (*1957) lives and works in Liège and Brussels.
