Menhir Tapestry 1 (2023)

mixed media, collected materials and collective minds from the local community
opening performance and community project commissioned by Radio X for X_ARTS Festival, curated by Angelika Li

The Earth resonates with delicate energy vortices, bridging life force and nature's essence. Menhirs,
often of prehistoric origin, stand as monuments or markers, channeling and radiating natural forces
for humanity's benefit. The collective human consciousness harmoniously engages with these sites.
The menhir becomes a conduit, channeling and diffusing nature's vitality to nurture humanity's soul.
The state of consciousness reflected by menhir does not necessitate detachment from the world.
Quite the opposite; we remain social beings. Expressing concern and care for others' well-being
yields profound satisfaction. Friendships flourish through empathy and mutual respect. Kindness and
good wishes amplify humanity, paving the way to a more compassionate world.
As humans, we possess the capacity to shape our desires into reality. Not merely through materials,
but with knowledge, memory, hopes, imagination, and dreams. We can shape our world to reflect
the values and ideals we hold dear, building a better future for ourselves and generations to come.

The installation ‘Menhir Tapestry 1’ is constructed using objects collected from the community, akin
to a ‘menhir tapestry’ where the artist imbues the collected sounds of blessings from the
participants. It is an interwoven collection that forms a profound piece—a multi-dimensional
creation embodying blessings, stories, dreams, contributions, energies, emotions, and the essence of
the involved community.
United in collective blessings, we can nurture cultural awareness and acceptance, bringing together
diverse backgrounds through shared experiences. This process shapes a closely-knit community,
cultivating a shared purpose that fosters empathy and deep understanding. By acknowledging and
honoring diverse cultures and traditions, we break down barriers and foster respect and mutual
understanding.
