Cultural Sustainability

The plate is an accessory linked to many customs and traditions, dating back to the ancient Cretan civilization; it recalls fascinating stories and over the centuries has assumed several functionalities: besides serving to contain food, it was used during religious rituals; as a symbol of wealth and for the commemoration of particular events. An empty plate, however, is also connected to other realities; that of malnutrition and famine. In today's post-globalization society we find more and more plastic dishes with a devastating impact on the environment. These plates are made of waste materials recycled from my daily consumption and covered with gold leaves. A double meaning operation that on one hand alludes to toxic waste illegally disposed of and concealed and on the other hand the symbolic use of gold that in alchemy corresponds to the "Philosophical Fire", the power for forging will and determination and our inner light. This work requires the participation of the public who is invited to fill the void of the plates with their own thoughts, observations, concepts, ideas and judgments
