Personal Structures

The biennial contemporary art exhibition Personal Structures, organised by the European Cultural Centre (ECC) in Venice, will welcome visitors from the 20th of April until the 24th of November, 2024 in the historical venues of Palazzo Bembo, Palazzo Mora and Marinaressa Gardens. Considering the complex dynamics of our global society, Beyond Boundaries was chosen as the guiding title of the seventh edition of the group show. Exhibitors will explore their identities looking at their cultural backgrounds as well as through the lens of gender. Central stage will be given  to research and education and to the current discourse on climate change and sustainability. Spirituality, rituals and afterlife will be highlighted, and the dialogue on nature and non-human beings will be one of the focuses in the exhibition.

Rolf Frischherz (born 1955 in Lucerne) is a contemporary Swiss artist and sculptor. His works can be found in public and private collections throughout Europe. During the exhibition Personal Structures the sculpture "Lovers" by Rolf Frischherz will be exhibited. This work is typical of Frischherz and tells of interpersonal relationships in its reduced and abstract visual language. The work consists of wire frames that are then coated with fiberglass and epoxy resin, sanded and dyed, making them robust, light and weather-resistant. The well-known motif of "Lovers" has been worked on by numerous artists over the centuries, including Vincent van Gogh and Renée Magritte. Rolf Frischherz's work "Lovers" is part of a long tradition, but as a contemporary artist he explores the theme in the context of current social developments. The artist develops everyday objects from his sculptural works, which are produced using the current production methods and materials of our time. Since 2021, Studio Frischherz has been digitizing all of the artist's works and creating replicas of the handmade sculptures using a 3D printing process. The miniature replica of the exhibited sculpture "Lovers" has thus become a collector's item and can be purchased from various sales partners.
