Richard Bernstein, Francesco Clemente
Warhol, who worshipped celebrity above all else praised Richard Bernstein with the words: “He makes everyone look so famous.”
He therefore asked Bernstein to design 189 covers for his avantgarde magazine: Interview which Warhol directed until his death in 1987. From then on it was published by Brant Publications.
Between 1972 and 1989, Bernstein designed the covers with portraits of Rob Lowe, Madonna, Angelica Huston, Isabelle Rossellini, Michael Jackson, just to mention a few of the famous faces he painted for the magazine.
The magazine nevertheless included covers by other other grand artists like Francesco Clemente who’s covers we have the privilege to include in this exhibition.
