Statement

At first sight, the works by Kenji Yanagi and Atsuo Hukuda have different appearances. It’s a collaboration which is exploring the differences and similarities between two "methods" of applying material. Experimenting with traditional materials such as washi paper, gold leaf, ink, and lacquer inherited from ancient Japan, asking how is their method appearing in modern art. However, the two artists are presenting the "passion", "impulse" and "movement" behind Japanese art, as one part of their mode of practice leading to mutual understanding.
