Anouk Sebald, Extrinsic

The gallery is proud to present a new video piece by multimedia artist Anouk Sebald. Extrinsic (2022) invites us to step into a sensually complex landscape of images and sounds. The piece employs one-shot footage of the artist’s body in two different settings, using a green screen to isolate movements and body parts. Her clever use of digital layering technology and vivid colour creates a compelling exploration of physical perception, from the inside and outside of our own bodies and others. The video provides an immersive, physically and visually stimulating experience that also encourages us to think about ways of perceiving (with) our bodies – an aspect that seems especially relevant in the wake of our physical adaptations to and isolation as a consequence of the pandemic.
