Riviera romagnola — Stefan Giftthaler

Photography and memory are inseparable, because photography intends to preserve over time the memory of a past. Riviera romagnola is therefore a work on memory: a hotel room keychain, a tablecloth, a door handle. Just change one of these details to completely distort the look and feel. These places are bound to fade away little by little. Theirs is a rather fragile condition: for this reason I felt the need to fix them photographically.
I revisited the Romagna's riviera in 2017, for the first time in many years. To tell you the truth, I didn’t even remember being there as a child with my parents, but coming back after a long time, everything came back to my mind: it was a real dive into the past. The riviera opened a temporal link that brought me back exactly to the age of when I was a child, in the 80's of the last century. Even the music was the same, I could hear the same records coming out of the ice cream boxes at the time.
