Healing technologies and affections

AYRSON HERÁCLITO
Healing Technologies and Affections / Tọju ati awọn imọ-ẹrọ iwosan

29 July --  4 November 2023

Curated by Marissa Lôbo & Ivana Marjanović

In his exhibition Ayrson Heráclito reveals the crossing of Afro diasporic healing technologies, heritages of a cultural matrix, providing us with a decolonial path. The demythification of the anthropocene and the integration of ecologies of knowledge of the "yorubaiana" ancestry in his work allows him to navigate between technologies of cleansing, purification, bodily connections, and orality. It is through ancestral knowledge that the diasporic body resists colonial violence and ethnocide. The "yorubaian" universe is a transatlantic voyage that entails sophisticated tools (re)created in the Afro-Brazilian diaspora, which endure to this day as a cure for body, spirit, mind, and society.

“Technologies of Connectedness: How to speak to Nature”
Performance, Talk, Celebration by Ayrson Heráclito, Gina Disobey
& Black Community Innsbruck

Sillsteg (Rapoldipark Innsbruck near the Sillsteg Bridge)

By using ritual traditions and healing practices in terms of political tools, Ayrson Heráclito and Gina Disobey will critically engage with the issues of colonialism and racism, as well as their continuity. The collective performance, followed by a public talk, will address practices of performance rituality, the activation of communal public space, and its regulation, which is marked by racist and discriminatory stereotyping.

This event is a cooperation with kulturen in bewegung, VIDC Global Dialogue,  Ayrson Heráclito and Gina Disobey (head of the project #wegonnabreathe for the Black Community Innsbruck). The event is curated by Ivana Marjanović and is a warm-up event for the CLIŠHÉ TRÄSH Festival on October 6 and 7, 2023 at Brotfabrik Vienna.

Kunstraum Innsbruck is supported by the City of Innsbruck, State Tirol, the Federal Ministry Republic of Austria Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport, Innsbruck Tourismus and its members. Clishé Träsh is supported by Vienna Airport and Erste Bank.
